Meet Sandy Spady, founder of Women with Voices, an empowerment group that gathers a collective of women together to uplift, network, and share their true stories. Sandy joined Mic Drop Workshop to empower women to follow their dreams in life no matter their age. “We strive to produce organic connections between our members and community members. Our community consists of all ages, backgrounds, and stories that unite a diverse collective. Together we are strong.”
What inspired you to pursue public speaking?
I tried to leave seven times…I am a statistic…There comes a time in your life when you know there is no going back. I made up my mind that I was not going back. I was bruised, wounded, and broken. Nothing could get me to go back. We all have wounds that make us feel unworthy, and we get stuck thinking we don’t deserve anything good. That day I took back my life! I told myself I could! Until we tell ourselves we can, no one can make us do something we don’t want to do. The Johnny Depp trial has been real to me, and some of us don’t have a voice to share; I am very passionate about helping women find their voices because some of us, silence is stronger.

What is a struggle you’ve encountered as a thought leader and how did you overcome it?
I learned to live under a cloud and still let my sunshine shine.
What is one of your proudest accomplishments so far in your public speaking career?
I believe that powerhouse women are called to share their struggles and successes to bring women together of all ages and professions. I was one of four women startup groups that were the speakers at Omaha Week Startup. The week of events were held throughout the city focused on building a more robust collaborative startup ecosystem within the greater Omaha area. Entrepreneurs and women that started businesses attended. Being the seasoned entrepreneur, I was enlightened to see the positive interest in my honest wisdom of following your dreams at any age.
What is a speaking career goal are you currently working towards and how is it going?
Empowering Women to speak their truth and to be honest, be real and acknowledge our brokenness and need for community. To be strong, community-minded women. To find your voice to share your story and love ourselves.
What is something you love about speaking?
To see the faces of women feeling the freedom of letting go and being free to be who they are meant to be.
What tip do you have for people who want to write or speak?
Nothing will hold you back but you. Regret is not a way to live. Speaking will free you! You can always get a job; do it!
What advice would you give your 10-year-old self?
You are enough. You are beautiful, and don’t let anyone take your sparkle away. You are born to shine.
How has the Mic Drop Workshop course and community helped you in your public speaking journey?
I enjoy the community of like-minded women to share information and questions. The Live Q & A is very informative, and being able to ask questions live is lovely.
