TRANSCRIPT

**Speaker Cassandra Worthy:** If I’m making this much in a corporate job where I love what I do twenty, twenty-five percent of the time, and this is how the universe is compensating me, what if I did it ninety, ninety-five percent of the time? Imagine how much the universe is going to compensate me for that. And I trusted in that. Thankfully, now the result is a multi-million dollar speaking business.

**Speaker Jess Ekstrom:** Welcome to Amplify with Jess Ekstrom, a show designed to help women get out of their head and into their zone of influence.

**Speaker 3:** Okay. Maybe you need a change in your life. Maybe you’re stuck in a job you don’t love. You appreciate the consistent paydays and the health benefits, but you feel like there’s more to your professional legacy. I talk to many people like you in my up Academy who aren’t just looking for their next speaking gig; they’re looking to make speaking their entire career. Today, we welcome the world’s leading expert on Change Enthusiasm, Cassandra Worthy, to the show. While Cassandra is well known now on the speaking circuit, not too long ago, she was stuck too. She was a chemical engineer who worked at Procter and Gamble for fifteen years and thought she was going to retire there. But the voice inside her head told her there was more out there for her.

**Speaker Cassandra Worthy:** There was always this intuition, this whisper. I know everyone can relate to this whisper we have, right? I’d had it ever since I started working in corporate, that there’s something bigger, something better I was meant to do with my gifts and talents. It wasn’t until I got sober. I’ll be sober ten years in November. Thank you. It has been a journey, and I’m so very grateful. When I finally addressed my alcoholism, it was in sobriety that clarity was achieved, and that whisper became a shout I couldn’t deny. So, I started following my curiosity, thinking, “If there’s something bigger, what is it?” I began to explore what I was curious about and what people said I was naturally talented at. I thought I’d just be a self-help author, helping people find their joy and bliss, like the joy I had within me. Eventually, I discovered the whole career of speaking. It was through following curiosity, attending conferences, raising my hand, and networking that I found myself on stage, talking about this mindset I’d practiced to get myself through change. Using my talents on stage, I felt lit up. I knew this was what I was supposed to be doing. This is where my intuition was leading me. Following that path of curiosity became a passion. I left corporate in 2019 and started my speaking career and now my global consultancy full-time.

**Speaker Jess Ekstrom:** I knew a lot of that, but the sobriety part is fascinating. I’m almost nine months pregnant, so I would say I’m nine months sober.

**Speaker Cassandra Worthy:** I love it.

**Speaker Jess Ekstrom:** I’ve explored a lot around drinking and what it does for my ambition and creativity. A few years ago, I read a book called *The Thirty Day Alcohol Experiment*. Each day it addressed a myth about alcohol, and you journaled about what it meant for your life. That thirty-day experiment turned into six months of not really missing it. I found I was so much more creative during that time. I wouldn’t consider myself someone who is sober, but there are things in life that produce noise and get in the way of that whisper that turns into a yell. Whether it’s sobriety, self-doubt, or habit changes, there are things that get in the way of our greater calling. What advice would you have for someone around that?

**Speaker Cassandra Worthy:** For me, the ultimate thing getting in my way was me—my self-limiting beliefs and the denial of my alcoholism. It was the alcohol and drugs I turned to whenever I heard that intuition or felt difficult emotions. My tendency was to run away from difficult emotions by reaching for the bottle or drugs. When I shifted my belief from “I’m not an alcoholic” to “I am an alcoholic and it’s okay,” everything changed. It was my keystone habit. Sustained change happens from sustained belief. Understanding the belief that will bring change into reality in a sustainable way and nurturing that belief is crucial. When my self-limiting belief was crushed, everything else in my life started to change. I had so much time on my hands because I wasn’t thinking about or indulging in the drink. My parents, both recovering alcoholics, planted the seed that I needed to get out of my own way. When I shifted that belief, I saw a path towards my purpose. It was life-changing for me.

**Speaker Jess Ekstrom:** You hit the nail on the head around curiosity. So much of our changes and thought leadership start with being curious about ourselves. Staying on the drinking topic, I realized from my experiment that being self-employed and always feeling on the clock, I needed a signal to tell me my day was done. Once I got curious about that need, not the glass of wine itself, I could replace it with other things. With change enthusiasm, you get curious about the internal changes needed for external results. Is that how you’d classify it?

**Speaker Cassandra Worthy:** Exactly. The power of curiosity can take you far when it’s outward. My journey involved getting curious, stepping one foot over the other. Authentic power comes from knowing yourself, and that takes boldness. For me, it’s the emotional cues—the emotional signals. Why do I get so frustrated? Why do I reach for the bottle when I feel a certain way? It takes courage to follow that curiosity inward, but when you do, your authentic power is unleashed. The mindset of change enthusiasm starts with acknowledging and holding difficult emotions. Listening to the emotional energy and choosing how to navigate it maximizes the opportunity it invites us into.

**Speaker Jess Ekstrom:** One of the keys you hit on is doing that without judgment. I want to talk about being in a job, having a salary, and making the leap into something else. Many people feel they have to choose between working for someone else or starting their own career. Was it like that for you? Was it an either-or? What advice would you give to someone who has that whisper but doesn’t want to leave the security of a job?

**Speaker Cassandra Worthy:** I’ll share my perspective. Everyone’s journey is different. Some people need to jump with no parachute. For me, it was a both-and. Following my curiosity while having a steady paycheck served as capital I could flood into my other business and curiosities. I enjoyed the journey, even when people weren’t paying me. I started my speaking business while still working full time. It was many hours, but I loved it. I launched my first website in 2018 and didn’t get paid for a speech until 2019. It was about trusting the process, putting out my ideas, and acting as if I had a flourishing speaking career. When it came time to leave, I had more booking engagements than vacation days left. It was the right next step for me. If I’m making this much in a corporate job doing what I love twenty, twenty-five percent of the time, imagine how much the universe will compensate me if I do it ninety, ninety-five percent of the time. Trusting that has led to a multi-million dollar speaking business. It’s about believing in yourself and taking consistent steps.

**Speaker Jess Ekstrom:** How can you make a leap feel like the next step? The verbiage around starting a business is often like strapping in for a skydive. But there are things you can start doing: buy the domain, launch your website, add “speaker” to your bio. Everyone can do that right after they listen. What if we started with the feeling of arrival? We often wait for external validation to kick-start our internal motivation, but the internal motivation has to be there first. The external moments never feel like what we thought they would. How do you not fuel your life based on the highs but be okay in the middle? Does your sobriety and addiction play into chasing those highs?

**Speaker Cassandra Worthy:** Of course, in sobriety, it’s one day at a time. Consistency is key. The consistency in taking small steps every day plays out in shifting careers or starting a business. There’s magic in envisioning and trusting that your desired reality is hurling its way to you. That belief and trust are major ingredients in manifestation. I used to have “what if” days, where I’d act as if I was living my multi-million dollar speaking business life. Eventually, my “what if” days became my reality. Creating space to cultivate the feeling of being where you want to be is powerful.

**Speaker Jess Ekstrom:** What a moment to realize your “what if” day has become your reality. It’s tough to appreciate that when you’re constantly moving the goalposts. You got paid twenty thousand dollars? Now you need thirty. You got a book deal? Now you need a TED Talk. Constantly moving the goalpost means never realizing when your “what if” days become reality. You can try on being a speaker for two weeks and always go back if it’s not what you thought. You have so much proven framework around change, which you call Change Enthusiasm. You’re not only bringing this into companies but teaching others to do it too. Talk about what you have coming up in July and how people can get involved.

**Speaker Cassandra Worthy:** Change Enthusiasm Global, my leadership development and consulting company, has been predominantly B2B. We work with large organizations, bringing learning experiences that empower individuals to practice change enthusiasm. We offer programs for leaders

and practitioners, equipping them with concrete tools. One of my biggest focus areas is accessibility. Starting in July, we’re launching virtual Change Growth Accelerator programs open to the public. These programs will credential individuals as change enthusiasm practitioners. We’re starting with twenty slots and will have sessions every month. The goal is to elevate accessibility, allowing anyone to become a change enthusiast practitioner, not just those in large corporations. You can sign up now for discounted pricing. I’m very excited about this initiative.

**Speaker Jess Ekstrom:** We’ll put all those links in our show notes. Where else can people find you and book you to speak? You’re a great follow on LinkedIn.
